Opening Statement
This system will be VERY different to what we have now - It will include certain mechanics that we have currently, but it will include the FW side of things too - Please keep an open mind while reading and keep criticism constructive please.
The system
We all know the current Sov system is flawed. We all know its very boring but reading the posts about 'changing the mechanics' entirely has left me gob smacked that CCP want to make Dreadnoughts absolutely pointless in this game - which removing POS's from the system will do. So I propose this.
Every system in eve has planets obviously, and im pretty certain some planets have people living on them - Now this has never been taken into account from CCP prior but with their future plans they wish to include 'planetary interaction' so, why not base our SOV system on this?
Each system has a designated amount of 'Influence points'. These points are gained via the Faction warfare system of 'Bunkers' but, they are also accrued through 'Planetary Influence POS' - Yes i am saying we should introduce a new form of Structure, a POS structure that can be anchored at a Planet (meaning no more 50+ towers per system) but to gain Influence you need to anchor a 'Satellite' of some kind that spreads your influence - Meaning that for your attacker to stop this influence 'ticking' per day they either need to place Planet POS's to, reinforce yours, or gain 'bunkers'
Once influence hits 50% your system becomes 'contested' If the enemy continues to drop your influence and gets it down to 30% they are able to capture the system via 'Major bunkers' - But there is a twist... you are able to anchor defences at this structure, no guns, but Hardeners/EW modules meaning you will NEED to defend them with a fleet.
There will be 5 Major bunkers per system, meaning 1 of these bunkers will be the focus of most of the fighting, but this gives room for tactics. If the enemy force attacks en'mass a single bunker you can sneak half of your force and capture one they are holding and so forth... it makes for a much more involved playing experience than - jump in dreads, blast a pos for an hour or so, jump out...
So My ideas in a tl:dr version:-
- Introduce Planetary 'Influence' POS's that require a Satelite to spread your influence (2% influence per DT)
- Introduce bunker style systems to 0,0 systems - each system has minor moderate and Major bunkers - Minor bunkers give a 5% increase in influence to the party that holds it, Moderate bunkers give a 7.5% increase to influence in the system to the party that holds it and finnaly the 5 Major bunkers become the focus once the system becomes 'contested'
- Bunkers are defensible via EW/Hardener POS modules making it slightly harder for the attackers to come in and wipe the current owners out
I understand this idea is in its infancy and on a 'regional' level needs to be looked at ie: 3 systems at 90% influence or so forth but I really think this could work...
